★ Audi R18
The Audi R18 is a prototype racing car of Le Mans, constructed by the German car manufacturer Audi AG. It is the successor to the Audi R15 TDI. Like its predecessor, the R18 uses a TDI diesel engine with turbocharging, but with a reduced capacity of 3.7 litres and in a V6 configuration engine. For the first time since the 1999 R8C, Audi prototype for Le Mans uses a closed cockpit design. R18 is also the first racing car from Audi will equip the hybrid power.
Although Audi has already given each new developed model of endurance car racing is a separate model, the head of Audi Sport, Wolfgang Ullrich, proposed R18 designation for Audi in endurance racing machines can be used in the foreseeable future due to a rival car manufacturer Renault, who already have signs for car names model A19 to P35. The new gearbox is controlled electrically, not pneumatic control, saving weight by eliminating the pneumatic system. Despite the capacity reduction, the 3.7 l V6 is claimed to develop more than 397 kW / 532 HP power. Thats less than the outgoing R15, but the V6 engines, fuel consumption is likely to be lower than the outgoing V10 engine on the R15. The new engine has a single Garrett Honeywell Turbo technologies TR30R VGT turbocharger, in contrast to the twin TR30R configuration like Peugeot 908 HDi with FAP and the previous Audi R15 TDI on. In R18s V6 engine exhausts inwards between the cylinder banks, turbocharger where it is. Its called a hot configuration of the valley and is opposed to the traditional configuration with each cylinder Bank of a V engine exhausting outwards to their turbochargers.
Unlike other coupé competitors in its class, the chassis on the R18 is not composed of two halves, one-piece design for extra rigidity. R18 has an engine cooling duct above the cockpit roof, as well as redesigned rear wheel arches to channel more air to the rear wing. As Acura ARX-02A, Audi has chosen to install taller and wider tyres at the front for increased contact patch. The system receives thermal energy from the exhaust and can add power for any turbocharger or the flywheel accumulator system. Audi later withdrew from the race with the second energy retrieval system, which is called the block-thermal motor-generator in F1, because it does not entail a performance gain engineers had hoped and therefore it was deemed an unnecessary risk to take. Aerodynamics have been heavily revised in accordance with the new rules: the width will decrease by 10 cm, height increased by 20 mm and has new front fenders. However, the exhaust-blown diffuser for the 2013 model year were banned and removed. Monocoque safety was reinforced with additional fabric. With plans to return the title manufacturers that Audi has not won since 2013, a brand new car, named Audi R18 fully evident in his final design contest in March 2016. Basically all peripheral element of the car design 2016 is fundamentally different from its predecessors. The front end and the overall length of the car has changed, and the nose of the car is slimmer than ever before. In front of the car, the air flow is directed to the top of the car and between the wheel sockets. This, in turn, enters the cooling channels through the housing body and travels on the floor. To avoid vortices and turbulent airflow that create energy losses of the air flow increase air resistance, less Audi has created a monocoque place in the chassis structure to allow high energy air stream through the vehicle chassis. More than ever, the new R18 directs air more efficiently to the underground to escape through a rear diffuser that helps to create downforce to help the car in cornering. The monocoque is 4.560 mm in length, which is maximum length in accordance with the law. The statement also called for more openings in the front wheel arches to keep the car grounded. The high torsional rigidity of the chassis to build the drive shaft for the hybrid system, From a new point of attachment of the front control arm. Spring damper elements are operated through the pushers on the front and rods in back. The gearbox was optimized to be lighter, six-speed transmission. The car uses a Central high pressure hydraulic system to reduce weight while still actuate the brakes, transmission and engine operation. The weight of the car is 875 pounds. Audi R18 upgraded to a class 6 MJ, and for a new car, the electrochemical system of the battery will store energy in a hybrid system instead of a flywheel, which will be located in the monocoque. MSU created the motor unit in the front axle will collect the kinetic energy due to rotation of the wheel to braking and acceleration to help the car to accelerate. MSU can store and access more than 476 HP restricted 408 HP In Le Mans. Therefore, during the transition to a higher class MJ decreases the supply of fuel to 49.9 litres in exchange for a higher engine output over 520 horsepower. The Foundation of the V6 TDI engine still revolves around variable geometry turbocharger, with a 120-degree angle of the cylinders and a torque of 850 Newton metres, in operation since 2011, but now consumes 32.4 percent less fuel in 2016, as opposed to 2011. Much like the rest of the car, security measures of the car have been revised. Audis technology matrix led headlights LaserLight was moved to 2016, and the field of view is displayed using the AMOLED monitor connected to rearview camera. SIS
