★ Audi S4
The Audi S4 is the high performance variant of the compact Executive car Audi A4. The original Audi S4, built from 1991 until 1994 was a oriented version of Audis 100 saloon / sedan. All subsequent S4s since 1997 based on the Audi A4, and the A4 has evolved from one generation to the next, and C4.
More powerful internal combustion engine, more upgraded brakes, stiff suspension, big wheels and distinctive sheet metal, styling tips, and gaps have always been amongst the many upgrades the S4 receives over its 100 and A4 siblings. In markets where high-performance Audi RS4 is not offered, the S4 is the top-of-the-line trim of the A4 family.
Like its conventional counterpart A4, all variants of C4 was oriented longitudinally, front-mounted engines. A single turbocharged 2.2-liter inline five-cylinder powered the original C4 version, and a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine was found in the B5 generation. On the B6 and B7 variants have a common 4.2 litre V8 engine, the first time that a V8 engine was placed in a compact Executive car, placing it in direct competition with the BMW M3 which at the time had a 3.2-liter inline-6. B8 generation uses a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine and competes with the BMW 335i. The recently introduced generation B9 powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine, unlike a supercharger, as in the previous iteration.
All variants of the S4 have their transmission mounted directly to the rear of the engine in a longitudinal orientation, in the form of a transaxle, and like all Audi "s" cars, are only available bundled with Audis Quattro full-time 4WD system with Torsen center differential system.
All variants of the S4 have been manufactured at Audis plant in Ingolstadt, Germany, or they were available as four-door five-seat sedan and five-door five-seat avant, Audis name on the sedan / touring body, because the models inception in 1991. Two-door four-seat convertible S4 variant was introduced in the framework of the Generation of the B6 and B7 A4 lineups. The b8 Cabrio is currently built off the A5 coupe body style and the "S" variant is marketed under the Audi S5 nameplate.
1. Type 4A, C4, 1991-1994. (Тип 4А, С4 1991-1994)
The products of the factory original Audi S4 type 4A, generally known as the Audi 100 C4, was started in August 1991 as the Performance version of the newly updated C4 platform 100 four-door, five-seat sedan. It was designed to replace the outgoing C3 based Audi 200 Quattro turbo, which had been Audis first true sports-saloon and had been discontinued in late 1990. The first S4 model from Audi, it is commonly called the UR-S4, derived from the German: UR sprunglich augmentive word: original.
Audi slightly updated the C4-based model line up in 1994 and over the 100 range, all variants of the former Audi 100 line were now badged as the Audi A6. In accordance with the switch in model name, Audi temporarily discontinued the use of the S4 name and began selling an updated but fundamentally identical version of the car based on the "new" A6 badged as S6. Despite the change in name, differences between incoming and outgoing C6 C4 were mostly cosmetic.
More powerful, more expensive and more exclusive variant known first as the S4 Plus and later as the S6 Plus was available from October 1992 to July 1994. Built in very small numbers, the "plus" models featured numerous performance enhancing upgrades, including the use of Audis 4.2-liter V8 engine in place of the current inline-five engines.
New C5-based Audi A6 debuted in 1997, after which the S4 and S6 became distinctly separate models based on very different platforms.

One of the most famous owners was Ayrton Senna, who owned a silver avant, though, because he was the distributor of Audi in Brazil.
1.1. Type 4A, C4, 1991-1994. C4 transmission. (Передача С4)
In standard form, the powertrain detail of the C4-based S4 was available with only one engine, one turbocharged and intercooling version of Audis 2.2 litre 20-valve inline five-cylinder engine displaced 2.226 CC 135.8 CU and was equipped with modern Bosch Motronic electronic engine control unit ECU. All C4 S4s come equipped as standard with a conventional fixed-assistance rack and pinion steering system of protected areas. Electronically controlled Servotronic system, which varied the level of assistance according to speed, was available as an option.
There are two different types of systems of high performance brakes for C4 C4. All S4s initially 12.20 310 mm in diameter by 25 mm 0.984 in thick, radially ventilated disc brakes front, each of which ate single-piston sliding caliper inside a UFO-style bell-shaped disk. With the introduction of V8 engine, the new front brake setup became standard, again the discs used radial ventilation, but these front discs were now the size of 314 12.36 mm to 30 mm 1.181 in - with a conventionally mounted Lucas-Girling caliper in an external position on the disk. American models had smaller 276 mm 10.87 in the discs. The rear brakes, 269 mm 10.59 in 20 mm 0.787 and also radially ventilated - remained the same throughout the C4 production, they used a Lucas-Girling single-piston sliding caliper with an integrated cable-operated Parking brake mechanism. 2. B5, type 8D, 1997-2002. (В5, типа 8Д, 1997-2002)
The second generation S4 type 8D now correctly titled Audi S4 Quattro debuted in 1997, with factory production beginning in October 1997, as part of the updated platform B5 and Audi A4 line-up, although it was not available in North America until the end of 1999.
In addition to the sedan, the sedan, the station wagon version–Audi S4 avant–was introduced into the lineup from 1998. Production of the B5 S4 ceased in September 2001, although it was sold together with the next B6 platform generation through 2002 year in North America. B5 S4 is equipped with 4-wheel independent suspension. Front suspension is a multilink design with four individual control arms to the wheel. Rear suspension unequal length double wishbone suspension with lower wishbones mounted to a subframe which also carries the differential case. The dampers, springs and anti-roll bars were fitted front and rear.
System B5 S4 brakes consisted of radially ventilated discs, 321 12.64 mm diameter 30 mm 1.18 inches thick at the front and 256 mm 10.08 in 22 mm 0.87 in on the rear panel. Two-piston Lucas HP2 brake calipers at the front with four pads into the caliper, with Lucas single-piston sliding brake calipers at the rear. A Bosch ABS 5.3 four-channel anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution EBD and electronic differential lock EDL and later or the electronic stability program ESP) in combination with a vacuum servo completed the system.
Standard wheels were Audis die-cast aluminum alloy, six-arm Avus 7.ЕТ45 5Jx17H2 rims, shod in 225 / 45 ZR17 performance tires.

Available exterior colors included brilliant black, laser red, light gray, cactus green, Santorin blue, bright red, Casablanca white, pearlescent white, Imola yellow, and blue. The last two colors were exclusive model C4. Leather interior was available in onyx or silver. Available options include:

The sport package replaced the wood-grain belt line trim with silver aluminum trim and wood grain finish around the shifter with black plastic. Alcantara seat was silver with onyx leather. Black, white, or blue exteriors, inserts were also available in blue Alcantara. In the early 2000 models, the Alcantara insets on the back seat do not fully extend forward to the front edge of the seat.
2.4. B5, type 8D, 1997-2002. B5 Motorsport. (В5 Мотоспорт)
The racing version of the car achieved great success in the SpeedVision World challenge with Michael Galati taking the 2001 SpeedVision GT title in a champion racing S4, winning four races, and helping Audi to its first manufacturers championship.
Audi Sport champion chassis specification A4 included a B5 RS4 engine, and Alcon racing brake calipers 4 piston front and 2 piston rear calipers.
Don Istook, with Istooks motorsports, built and campaigned several B5 S4s in the first Cup Motorola, and then the Grand am Cup. In the S4s was even raced by Istooks Motorsport in the rolex GT category for multiple races to help fill the field. It should be noted that one of the S4s, a true gt race Cars, even ran as high as second place in the rain at Barber Motorsports Park. These S4s were built using the existing S4, not a RS4 engine, but used B5 Audi RS4 K04 turbochargers.
3. Type B6 8E / 8h, 2003-2005. (Тип В6 8е / 8х, 2003-2005)

Like its predecessors, the B6 S4 was standard with a Getrag M6S six-speed manual transmission, with a 9.4 in 240 mm single-plate dry clutch, and Torsen T-2 quattro permanent four-wheel drive system. Final drive parts code prefix: 01R code: EXZ ratios are 3.889, giving a Top gear speed ratio is engine speed 24.4 mph 39.3 km / h at 1000 rpm. 3.3. Type B6 8E / 8h, 2003-2005. B6 body and interior. (В6 кузов и салон)

At the Avus-III wheels now option, and were replaced by a standard offering 8.0Jx18 inch S-design 7-spoke forged alloy wheels.
Bose sound system is now standard, while optional on the B6 S4 and for more advanced DVD-based RNS-e satellite navigation system replaces the previous CD-ROM based RNS-D option.
The new trapezoidal single frame grille, bi-xenon high-intensity discharge lamps hid headlamps, L-shaped taillights, Quad exhaust tail pipes, and discrete badging V8 and below the side repeater indicators help distinguish the B7 from the previous B6 model.
4.1. B7 type 8E / 8h, 2005-2009. Audi S4 25quattro. (Ауди С4 25quattro)
In June 2005, Audi announced a limited edition run of 250 special edition S4 saloon cars, celebrating 25 years of quattro four-wheel drive. This exclusive model was called the Audi S4 25quattro. Available only in the US, the Exterior has unique front and rear bumpers, fiber carbon boot spoiler and front splitter, functional rear red towing hook and high gloss Phantom black grille with "quattro emblem". 15-spoke alloy wheels in DTM, along with optional dealer-fitted Audi four rings, stickers for front doors exterior makeover. Black and grey contrasting interior leather, along with "Quattro" embossed Recaro seats, together with the "1 of 250" the exclusive Quattro shift knob gear for manual-only transmission to determine internal changes and act as a delicate reminder of the exclusivity that a limited number of commands.
On the mechanical side, the S4 25quattro was the second Audi, after the B7 RS4 to be fitted with the most modern Torsen T-3 asymmetric ATB differential center quattro permanent four-wheel drive system. Under normal conditions the clutch is set by default, the back bias torque split 40:60 front to rear, and up to 100% of torque is automatically apportioned to the rear axle and up to 80% on the front, as conditions warrant. The final drive ratio 3.889.
5. B8 type 8K, 2009-2016. (Типа В8 8К, 2009-2016)
Since November 2008, the latest generation Audi S4 Quattro 8K type entered factory production. It is based on the current Audi B8 A4, built on the platform Volkswagen MLB / MLP. Unlike the previous model B6 and B7 B8 the new version will be available only as a four-door five-seat sedan or five-door five-seat avant estate / wagon. Sport-performance two-door four-seat convertible gown is the current Audi S5 Cabriolet and new coupe. Unlike the previous generation S4, only the sedan will be imported into the United States and Canada.
Compared to the previous B6 / B7 S4 which used a 4.2-liter V8 engine, This latest B8 S4 uses a smaller displacement 3.0 litre TFSI V6 engine, but now with the addition of forced induction via an Eaton mechanical supercharger.
The previous B6 / B7 S4s were the top-of-the-line model in North America, ahead of the 3.2 l V6 and 4-cylinder 2.0 T А4с, and competed with a BMW E46 330 and E90 335, respectively. The 3.0 TFSI V6 engine replaces the 3.2-liter fsi V6 engine, as the engine of modernization in the A4 and A6 lineups starting in 2009, the 3.2 litre FSI and 3.0 TFSI were offered together until the end of the 2010 model year. 3.2 l V6 engine no longer offered in the A4 lineup in 2011, so the recently introduced B8 S4 is now at a price 9% lower than its V8 predecessors, and slots directly above the 4-cylinder 2.0 T model. S4 now compares more closely with the BMW 335i.
Previously unavailable enthusiast driver AIDS are not required, such as Audi, sports rear differential, active steering and adaptive damping suspension part Audi drive select package. The front axle was moved by 6.1 inches forward to improve weight distribution of the B8 platform. In combination with sports rear differential, Audi has managed to significantly improve the weight balance and dynamics C4 compared to previous models.
New designed wheels on the B8 S4, an 8.5Jx18" 5-double-spoke s design alloy wheels with 245 / 40 ZR18 tires with high performance characteristics. Optional 19-inch wheel and tire packages are also available, size 8.5Jx19" alloy wheels with 255 / 35 ZR19 tires. Led rear lights as standard, along with Audis now trademark led daytime running lights in the front.
On the S4 along with other B8 models received a facelift in early 2012. This included a revised front end with new headlights and radiator grille, an updated interior as well as modernized variants of MMI. Mechanically, the facelift B8 known colloquially as the B8.5 has been upgraded with electromagnetic control and lightweight crown gear center differential.
5.1. B8 type 8K, 2009-2016. B8 powertrain. (Б8 трансмиссии)
In the center of the B8 S4 powertrain is an all-new, all-aluminum alloy 3.0-litre supercharged TFSI V6 engine has the parts code prefix: 06e wall, ID: Chuck, and, like the rest of the B8 model range, now with fuel stratified injection fsi. This petrol engine displaces 2.995 CC 182.8 CU, and it is designed for Audi with a capacity of 245 kW, 333 HP, 329 HP from 5.500 to 7.000 rpm. Torque is rated at 440 N⋅m 325 lb⋅ft from 2.900 up to 5.300 rpm. This high power is achieved through the use of forced induction – and specifically, the all-new Eaton twin vortices series roots-type TVs of the piston compressor. This new features supercharger four-lobe rotors, which are axially twisted 160 degrees. It is installed on top of the engine, in V, pumping the air directly into the intake manifold, and includes two separate water-cooled intercooler. This new design of supercharger is said to reduce noise, vibration and harshness NVH engine.
This engine is paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox identification code: KMR or seven-speed S tronic dual clutch DL501 identification code: lhk, the latter with steering wheel-mounted paddle switches for Tiptronic gearbox that replaces the Tiptronic automatic transmissions found in the B6 / B7 iterations. The sport differential Audi Quattro is installed in the rear axle final drive available as an option.
Acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h is 62.1 mph takes 5.1 seconds for the saloon with manual gearbox, the avant one tenth of a second slower in 5.2 seconds. The same dash to 100 km / h in the cabin with S tronika takes 5.3 seconds, and the avant at 5.4 seconds. Maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h 155.3 mph. However, compared to American car magazine Road & track showed the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds for the 6-speed manual transmission.
